What is 95th percentile billing?

Put simply, 95th percentile charging involves a reading taken from the network connection every five minutes. At the end of the month, the top five per cent (which is approximately 36 hours of a 30-day billing cycle) of readings are removed and the next highest reading is the final chargeable figure.

So if you are paying for 1Mbps bandwidth, you will actually get a higher speed connection than this and will get the highest 5% of bandwidth throughput free of charge.

Benefits Customers as the busiest 36 hours per month are ignored

Most ISPs use a five minute sampling and 95% utilization when calculating usage. This means our network takes 5 minute samples over the month. For a 30 day month, this is 720 hours or 8,640 samples. The samples are then ordered by magniture and the the busiest 36 hours or 420 samples are ignored. Charging is then based on the remaining peak traffic level.

2020Media offers IP transit with a wide range of available dedicated IP connections.
