SecureCRT, Putty and WinSCP

SecureCRT creates a private key in a format incompatible with other software, excepting their own (commerical) SecureFX product.
To use other secure copy products we recommend that you generate a public/private key pair using PuttyGen.
Make sure you select SSH1 as the protocol in PuttyGen as the default is SSH2




Once you've created the public/private key pair, email us the public key and we will install it. You can edit your session in SecureCRT to point to the private key generated by PuttyGen - SecureCRT will accept it - so you don't have to have two private/public keys to keep track of.

Connecting Using WinSCP

WinSCP is a free secure copy client available from www.winscp.net. If you are using WinSCP, here are the steps required.

STEP 1
Select New from the session manager. Enter the information highlighted below.
You should locate the private key saved earlier using PuttyGen.





You do NOT enter a password- the private key/public key takes the place of a password.

STEP 2
Tick the "Remember last used directory - not essential but makes life easier.

STEP 3
Select 1 only from the "prefered SSH Protocol Version".
