Joomla User Groups Map

Whether you are new to Joomla, or a seasoned developer, User Groups offer a great informal way to share knowledge and experience, get help with problems, and meet new people. There are 12 listed in the UK and many more around the world. 2020Media is based in London and we are members of our local group - Joomla London. The London group is described thus: "Joomla! Users Group London is open to all. Whatever your experience of Joomla! you will get something from the meetings. We regularly have talks by the members on aspects of site building and maintaining which matter to them. We have a "clinic" where members can bring questions and seek answers. We also have a roundup of the best extensions that members have come across."

Joomla is much more than the core Joomla software system. There are thousands and thousands of plugins, themes and extensions (not to mention hosting companies) that enhance and support Joomla. Without the community there would be no Joomla.

What to Expect

As we only attend the London User group, this is based on our experience there.
The London meetings happen on the 3rd Tuesday of every month, and are held in a room provided by University College London. The meetings are run by Joe and Phil, who keep things running along smoothly and welcome new members.
Typically we get one or two new faces at every meeting. The meetings start with a general question and answer session where we discuss any Joomla news, any new extensions or plugins, or any problems. There's then usually a talk for about 30 minutes by one of the members, or someone from outside about a particular aspect of Joomla. In the past these have included CiviCRM, Joomla performance and the Gantry framework. Finally we finish up with a problem solving session where anyone can talk about a Joomla problem they've got. More recently we've finished off the evening with a social chat in the nearby Marlborough Arms pub.

Join us

Joining a user group can be daunting but it's well worth it. If you can visit in person, most user groups have mailing lists. Just email the admin of the user group and ask to be added to the mailing list. Good luck and we hope to see you soon!
